WINTER ACTIVITIES

A Winter Playground at Your Doorstep ❄️

Location is where this cottage really shines. Whether you’re visiting Haliburton for your favourite rigorous outdoor experience or something more laid back, you’ll find it all close by. This 6-bedroom lakeside cottage puts you right in the middle of most of Ontario’s favourite winter outdoor past-times and is perfect for groups of a half dozen to a dozen or more. Put your boots and winter gear on, step outside to enjoy all those unique activities that Haliburton is renowned for.

AT THE COTTAGE:

Snowmobiling:

Sled from your door with direct access to the hub of the HCSA trail system and beyond. For example, the cottage is literally right on the popular “FAR” (Forest And Rail) 75 km trail loop, which typically takes 4 to 5 hours to complete. Another shorter loop which includes HCSA trail #7as well as part of the FAR loop only takes about an hour and a half also passes right by the cottage. In general, the various sled loops available from this centrally located cottage are unlimited.

Ice Fishing:

Rent the heated (walk to) ice bungalow, or either of the 7’X7′ or the 7’X14′ portables and access all the varied lake structure of the 5-lake chain by sled or ATV. The lake is well-known for it’s walleye, lake trout, and perch hardwater fishing.

ATV’s, UTV’s, Bikes:

No need to garage the off-road toys for the winter; when ice conditions permit we try to maintain a plowed “track” on the lake, or feel free to explore the whole 68 kms of the 5-lake systems shoreline including access to Haliburton when ice/snow conditions permit. (No trail passes required.)

Skating:

Most of the winter weeks, we are able to maintain a really good lakeside rink (as long as the weather conditions co-operate.)

Cross Country Skiing:

From your door, you have access to 34 kms of Lake Kashagawigamog shoreline, or ski just 4.5 kms through Grass Lake to all the amenities in the welcoming village of Haliburton on Head Lake.

Yes, Your Dog Is Welcome 🐾

Winter weekends are better with your four-legged sidekick—and this cottage is pet friendly. Bring the dog, let them play in the snow and enjoy walks along the lake together. No need to book a sitter or feel guilty for leaving them behind.

Nearby Adventures:

Arguably Ontario’s most unique winter (and summer) tourism attraction right here in Haliburton County, less than a 30 minute drive from the cottage! 80,000 acres including 400 kms of both snowmobile trails, and also groomed WINTER ATV trails! And it’s Wolf Centre is the only place in Ontario where families can actually view wolves in there natural habitat.

Dogsled Tours

Mush your own team of huskies over up to 50 kms of dedicated groomed wilderness trails. Winterdance Dogsled Tours is managed by Hank DeBruin, a veteran of both the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest, the two most brutally challenging dogsled races in North America. There are 2-hour, half-day, and full-day tours offered, and their property is only a 20 minute drive from the cottage. (Advanced booking required.)

Downhill Skiing

Sir Sams Downhill Ski Resort has a vertical drop of 330 ft, 14 beginner to advanced ski runs (including a board park) serviced by 6 lifts plus one enclosed “magic carpet” lift which services the bunny hill. Trail passes are quite reasonable, and the hill is located only a 20 minute drive from the cottage

Cross Country Skiing

Other than just gliding the shoreline of the lake at your doorstep, the Glebe Park Nordic trails are part of a 13 km system of professionally track-set trails. And Glebe Park is just 5 kms from the cottage
